Lace-Front Wigs are full wigs with mesh lace attached in front beyond the “hair-line” of the wig that is custom fitted, trimmed, and temporarily glued to ones skin around the hairline. You can’t see where the lace starts or ends once you apply makeup to cover it. The mesh lace also provides for natural looking partings in the hair.
We often see John Travolta, Jenna Jameson, Tyra Banks, a now-bald Britney Spears and Beyoncé with flawless looking hair that is most often than not due to the trendy lace front wigs. Lace-Front wigs have been around for quite a while used by the entertainment and health care professions. Alepecia sufferers and the famous Drag Queen Ru Paul have worn them for years.
The technology on them has really improved, in fact, it’s pretty amazing because the blend with ones natural skin is remarkable if glued properly. Unfortunately, Beyoncé had a real “OOPS” moment when she was photographed with her “Glued” hairline coming undone.
A custom-made Celebrity lace front wig with Supreme Quality hair (Cuticle Remy Hair) can cost up to $20,000. But a good custom-made lace front can be purchased for about $2,000-$3,000. And, of course, there are your cheap imitations with poor quality hair that can be purchased for just a few hundred dollars..uh huh…there are some girlfriends walking around with those kind– looking very “Wiggie” and fake (we all have seen them, YIKES! ;o)) As remarkable as the technology is, these wigs are not without their imperfections. The attachment can be visible to the eye and can come unattached due to sweat or highly expressive facial movements. Just raising one’s eyebrows can cause the “line of demarcation” to show because the glue can be stiff and does not move with the skin on ones forehead.
I suggest having them applied and cared for by an experienced professional to avoid damage to your hair and skin and to avoid tearing the delicate lace that can cost up to $1,000.00 to repair!
